Department of English

Department of English, Thunchan Memorial Govt. College, Tirur started in1980 during the starting of the college, has always been the prime faculty of the college with its committed participation in all-round development, academic as well as co-academic, of the institution. From there, it has ever played a key role in all the developmental aspects, of the students-in understanding their full language potential and catering to the demands of the beneficiary society at each juncture of time. The members of the faculty has been at the forefront of integrating and achieving the multifaceted curricular and co-curricular aspirations normally expected from such a department. The well known academics have paved a path for the younger generation to advance on their own in the fields of English Language and Literature, making it an open window to the world in today’s globalized scenario.

The Department has two permanent teaching posts. It offers Common course ( First Language) to UG students of Departments of Mathematics, Commerce, Physics, Malayalam and Arabic. Mrs. Sageera. M.P is the Head of the Department.

    The Department has a separate Department Library with a stock of Hundred and fifty books for reference. Department owns Laptops, and Printer cum Xerox Machine, and has full time internet connectivity. Class rooms are equipped with LCD projector and speaker system. A well set Language lab is made available to students with an aim to build up and refine their language skills, with a seating capacity for 35. Special training in accent, pronunciation and vocabulary is given with the help of language lab.
